RESTORATION OF THE 1964 PONTIAC CATALINA

THE RESTORATION OF THIS NORTH CAROLINA RUST FREE SURVIVOR TOOK 7 + YEARS
AND A TON OF MONEY.  NO EXPENSE WAS SPARED TO RE-CREATE A “SUPER DUTY” LOOK-A-LIKE. (Although actual “super duties” were made only up thru 1963, after that dealers and race aficionado’s continued to re-create the same idea)). I have all the data and history of the car since it was new, from the North Carolina Dept of Motor vehicles. I purchased the car in November of 2000.
The “frame on restoration” -started in 2001. The car was totally “gutted”, stripped and everything took off a sitting hulk and cleaned, replaced or rebuilt to be better than original. From front to back !!!
Bumpers rechromed, all new bolts, brackets blasted and painted.
Grill, modified to resemble a 1964 Canadian Parisienne Custon Sport (actually a US Grand Prix grill w/o the fog lights).  You will never see another 1964 Pontiac with that grille.
Lights, all new, rewired, converted to Halogen. Bezels were replaced with NOS bezels.
Radiator, rebuilt 4 core, Motor (389) was gone over, w/o replacing pistons, crank etc. What was done was valve job, new cam, lifters, timing chain, oil pump, water pump carb, new electronic ignition, new aftermarket electric choke Edelbrock 4 BL performer carb. All new hoses, belts, new gaskets, etc………
All new New front end parts, steering box, , shocks and custom variable resistance 2 in extra lift springs –all around (to get the appropriate high stance)
New clutch, pressure plate, throw out  bearing and a newer Super T-10 trans (heavier duty than the original T-10) used all stock mounts, etc. Heavy-duty universals, a totally rebuilt 3:90 posi rear end, again all new shocks and custom 2” extra lift shocks.
All new brakes, cylinders, hoses, clamps, and police package finned brake drums., I used 15” instead of the stock 14 inch wheels (as a super duty had) I used the correct “period”  rims with the internal clips to utilize the correct super duty dog dish hubcap (1963 vintage)
Trunk totally rust free, painted with correct GM “spackle type paint” and sealed.
All tail light sockets and wiring redone and taped with the appropriate old-fashioned cloth electrical tape.
Original jack, handle, hold down springs etc, blasted and painted as original.
Rear bumper rechromed, new bolts, brackets blasted and painted.
Exterior totally stripped, all glass and entire exterior removed all handles prior to painting.
All exterior chrome removed and rechromed,
New windshield, all other glass removed, rubbers and windlace replaced and chrome reattached with new clips and fasteners.
The interior was totally re-done, I obtained original naugahyde and seat fabric, all re done by a master upholstery specialist that normally works on Million dollar Rolls, Ferrari’s Auburns, Cords etc.
Rugs, headliner, dash pad all redone to original specs if not better.
All wiring, every nut and bolt was re-done, replaced or re-engineered, too many examples to list.
Ask me the story about the stoplight switch and the clutch rubber boot.
I could go on for hours; I have literally hundreds of pictures showing the restoration process.
