Wanted: Want to adopt sweet, calm male dog

Loving couple seeks dog. We have a nice sized yard and live next to the arboretum, so we have plenty of space to walk and play with our future dog. We currently have a year old mixed female we rescued from Puerto Rico. She is very gentle yet playful, but is only 14 pounds. Ideally we would like a gentle male dog that wouldn't be too rough with her. His size doesn't matter, but we would prefer a mid-sized dog. Please, no high-strung or overactive dogs, we are looking for a dog that loves long walks and hanging out and getting cuddled, but not an overly energetic pet. I have been searching on petfinder without luck as of yet. Am willing to pay an adoption fee for the right pet.
