Rottweiler - Medium - Adult - Female - Dog - Roxie
Description
Roxie is a 7 year old female who came to us with an injury to her hind leg. She has been in foster care for a couple months and has proven that she is an amazing dog despite the unkind treatment she received in the past. Roxie's past has caused her to sometimes feel uncomfortable with strangers leaning over her and she is learning that it is not scary. She has improved leaps and bounds but will require an adopter who is comfortable properly introducing her to new friends. Roxie has previously lived with children. Roxie has learned some new obedience since coming into foster care and she is a very quick learner. She loves giving paw, sits on command, and is quickly learning down, stay, and come. She is extremely affectionate and craves cuddle time with her foster family. Roxie did not know the joy of dog toys prior to coming to RRUFF but is now learning how to play and especially likes her rope toy. Roxie is very verbal and likes to talk during play and belly rubs. On November 14, 2008 Roxie went to be evaluated by an Orthopedic surgeon. It was determined that Roxie's Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) had been torn. When the ACL is torn the knee joint will slide instead of moving like a hinge and the instability causes pain, inflammation, wearing of cartilage and increased synovial fluid production. Roxie's ACL Repair was performed the afternoon of her evaluation. The surgery went smoothly and Roxie returned to her foster family the following day to begin her recovery. Recovery involves a few weeks of "bed rest" and then controlled activity. This allows fibrous connective tissue buildup along the artificial strands implanted along the knee joint to stabalize the joint during activity. Roxie is being wonderful for her foster Mom and Dad despite the tenderness post surgery. She patiently sits through her incision site icings and does not seem to mind being walked with a sling under her belly. ***UPDATE***** Roxie has recovered nicely from her operation!! HEr fur is almost all grown back and she is much more comfortable now that her knee is all fixed. She is scheduled to be spayed in March and the she will ready to be adopted out! ~~~~UPDATE~~~~ Roxie was spayed in early March and has had her sutures removed. She is NOW ready for her forever home. Roxie has also recently received her Canine Good Citizen Certificate and even more importantly she has learned how to play with her tennis ball. She is really having fun just being a dog, and is becoming quite the retriever. Afterwards her favorite thing to do is sit in between her foster Dads legs, cuddle, and get pets. Roxie is currently attending a 6 week obedience class with her foster family to polish up her obedience and learn some extras! Roxie is far more comfortable with strangers and often eagerly greets new people. It must be spring, because this girl is BLOSSOMING!!
